VENTURING OUT OF THE DARKNESS
VENTURING OUT OF THE DARKNESS 30inx40in | Venturing out of the Darkness is a special project born out of a proposal by a newfound friend and fellow artist, Scott Washko. We met through the annual Bayou Art Festival in which Scott was a participating emerging artist with an impressive booth, and I, an 'artist relief' volunteer.

Mr. Washko's booth showcased several acrylic paintings, each more unique and intricate than the previous. I couldn't help myself but to ask hundreds of questions regarding his artistic processes, materials, and personal artistic philosophy. I've found one of the most impressive aspects of Mr. Washko, and his work is the creative, witty resourcefulness intertwined with traditional means of creating art.

Mr. Washko proposed we each create a painting and swap during his booth showcase at the annual Sugarland Art Festival located in Sugarland, TX. I eagerly agreed and decided to paint a familiar muse. By the end of the process, Venturing out of the Darkness had begun to take a new turn. I found myself filling more of the familiar black background with more vegetation, with more life. It felt as if this was the start of a fresh artistic growth for myself and my skill. I felt more motivation to paint with the newfound deadline.
